The Supremes lived up to their name, repeatedly topping the charts in the 1960s with hits including "Where Did Our Love Go," "Baby Love" and "Stop! In the Name of Love." The Motown group, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, officially broke up in 1977, but the only original member at that point more than 15 years after the founding of the group was Mary Wilson. Florence Ballard had been replaced by Cindy Birdsong in 1967, the same year the group was renamed Diana Ross and the Supremes in a Berry Gordyordered shift to emphasize Ross as the band's lead draw. Ballard died tragically less than a decade later. Ross went solo in 1970.
