Proceed with caution: this is a game that doesn't feel like a game. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, to call it by its full name, is a ruthlessly naturalistic simulation of contemporary combat. It would feel like playing your way through a CNN broadcast from Afghanistan if CNN could ever put something this brutal and graphic on TV. This is urban combat. This is asymmetrical warfare. This is collateral damage. This is just about the limit of how realistic a combat game can be. Or should ever be. Lev Grossman
