Tafiq bin Attash (a.k.a. Waleed bin Attash) is a senior al-Qaeda operative and alleged mastermind behind the U.S.S. Cole attack in 2000. U.S. authorities believe that Attash was originally selected to be a 9/11 hijacker but was limited to helping pick other hijackers after he was arrested and briefly detained in Yemen in 2001. He is currently in custody in the Guantánamo Bay detention camp.
