While the musicianship of drum and bugle corps often gets the most attention, the athleticism of each group is a vital component to a successful show. Ten minutes of precision marching with a tuba or bass drum strapped to your body is tiring enough without the extra difficulties of actually playing. While Phantom Regiment's 2007 show "On Air" took only fourth place, its finale is perhaps the most athletic in DCI history. At the end of a grueling 10-minute routine, the band belts out its final strains of Stravinsky while sprinting down the field. This performance was filmed at the Alamodome, where the Dallas Cowboys train in the spring. It's safe to assume that Emmitt Smith never had to maintain this level of musicianship in his dashes to the end zone.
