Riding the Upper Yough is more a dare than an experience. This particular stretch of the Youghiogheny River running through the western part of the state represents one of the country's best rafting experiences and perhaps most terrifying. For nearly 10 miles, the river drops about 116 feet per mile, making the Upper Yough pretty much one long stretch of Class 5 rapids the second most difficult kind. If you are in good shape and can really work a paddle, plenty of rafting companies will take you on the run. For the rest of us, there's the Splash Mountain water park in Ocean City.
