The undisputed high-flying star of Broadway's season, and with good reason. It's a musical that works on almost every level: a meaty, socially relevant, surprisingly nuanced story; a rich and appealing musical score by Elton John; and staging that lifts the spirits even as it commands the senses. The show is nominated for a record-tying 15 awards, and with the possibly exception of one or two acting categories, any one it loses should be counted as an upset.
