A stint on SNL doesn't guarantee future success—ask Chris Kattan—but while other cast members often reach their peak on the vaunted sketch-comedy show, Eddie Murphy has continued to thrive in the decades since he became the only active cast member to host the program. While his film career has had both highs (Beverley Hills Cop, Shrek, Dreamgirls) and lows (Norbit, Meet Dave), the comedian has won both a Grammy and a Golden Globe award, and has been nominated for an Oscar. Murphy, who made a name for himself with edgy (and often vulgar) stand-up comedy routines, has since moved on to more family-friendly fare, starring in Daddy Day Care, Disney's Haunted Mansion, and the upcoming Shrek Forever After — Murphy's fourth time voicing the lovable loud-mouthed donkey. Longtime fans yearning for the younger, crasser Murphy can take heart, though: Beverly Hills Cop IV is currently in development.
