Comedian Bobcat Goldthwait, who made his name by acting crazy in front of TV cameras, may have saved his best performance of all for The Tonight Show. During a 1994 appearance, Goldthwait, reportedly angered about the cancellation of The Arsenio Hall Show, lit the guest chair on fire. A misguided attempt at revenge? An obscure artistic statement? An attempt to start a riot? No one knows. Jay was not amused, and Goldthwait later pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge stemming from the stunt. He paid a fine, replaced the chair and was forced to film a series of fire-safety announcements for Los Angelesarea television.
