Day 80
April 9, 2009
"He's a serial exaggerator. If I was being unkind, I would say he's a liar, but it's a habit he ought to drop. You should not exaggerate and lie like this when you are the Vice President of the United States."
Karl Rove, former Bush aide, in an interview with Fox News continuing a back-and-forth with Vice President Joe Biden
Rove delivers his harshest and most pointed words yet in an ongoing verbal tussle between the VP and former Bush Administration officials. He calls the VP a "blowhard" and suggests he's a liar for telling CNN he once had an exchange in the Oval Office in which Bush said, "Well, Joe ... I'm a leader," and Biden responded, "Mr. President, turn around and look behind you. No one is following." Ari Fleischer, Andrew Card and even former Vice President Cheney weigh in, challenging Biden's claim. Biden's spokesman says he stands by his remarks.
At a housing-refinancing roundtable at the White House, Obama plays mortgage broker, urging Americans to use the resources he's giving them to cut their monthly home payments. Later, he unveils plans to improve health care and other services for veterans, saying, "When you come home to America, America will be there for you."
