The Game: On a key third down play in the fourth quarter, Marchetti helped tackle Giants running back Frank Gifford even as teammate Gene "Big Daddy" Lipscomb fell on him, breaking Marchetti's right ankle in the process. "He was screaming like a wounded panther," Gifford has said. After Marchetti was carried off the field, referee Ron Gibbs spotted the ball short of the first down marker. A first down would have let the Giants run out the clock and win the title. Instead the Giants had to punt, Unitas led the game-tying drive, and the Colts prevailed. Despite the broken ankle, Marchetti chose to watch the remainder of the game from the sideline rather than receive medical attention. Gifford still thinks he got shafted by the referee's spot of the ball.
Post-Game: With teammate Alan Ameche, co-founded Gino's Hamburgers, a successful East Coast fast food chain. Enshrined in the NFL Hall of Fame in 1972, and named to the NFL's 75th Anniversary All-Time Team in 1994.
