Democratic opponent Lloyd Bentsen's response: "I served with Jack Kennedy. I knew Jack Kennedy. Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy." Quayle's miffed comeback "That was really uncalled for, Senator" had to wait until the laughter died down.
