Steven Spielberg pairs up with Survivor's Mark Burnett to create a reality-show competition for future Steven Spielbergs. You might say that this idea's been done before, in Project Greenlight, but that's only partly true. Greenlight devoted its first episode to the competition in which the winner was chosen; later shows, like Project Runway, discovered that that process isn't a prelude, it's the meat of a good reality series. Whether On the Lot succeeds depends on whether it can make camera-wielding camera-friendly. But if Heidi Klum could do that for cutting cloth, maybe Spielberg can do it for cutting film.
