Date: June 27 to September 16
Artists: Various Artists
Venue: The National Gallery, London
In a show organized with the Hague's Royal Picture Gallery Mauritshuis, the National brings together 60 examples of portraiture from the Netherlands in the 17th century, when the wealthy, worldly Dutch provided a booming market for images of themselves at work, at rest and at very rambunctious play. What they left behind was the first collective portrait of Europe's secular middle classes waking up to themselves.
