So great was his triumph as a colorist that we tend to forget Matisse's importance as a sculptor. Working mostly in bronze, he revolutionized the representation of the human figure. His calculated distortions took it into uncharted territory. This exhibition, the first in the U.S. in four decades to look at him chiefly as a sculptor, brings together 66 works in various media and sets him within the context of fellow explorers like Brancusi, Picasso and Giacometti.
