Shakira, the Grammy-winning Latina most famous for her hip-shaking moves and seductive voice, took a musical break this summer to hit the books. On Aug. 6, the singer enrolled in the UCLA course Introduction to Western Civilization: Ancient Civilizations from Prehistory to Circa A.D. 843, which ran until early September. The pop star, who has taken tutorials on the history and languages of the countries she's visited, now wants to focus on social issues. And she did well in her UCLA class. Her professor said he was "impressed" with her intelligence and wasn't even aware of who she was.
