Documentarians have been filming real life for decades, but now documentaries of the virtual world — called machinimas — are becoming popular. Following in the footsteps of Red v. Blue, which was shot within the video game Halo 2, HBO has acquired the rights to a series shot in Second Life, a game in which players create alter egos, or avatars, of themselves. My Second Life: The Video Diaries of Molotov Alta is scheduled for release in 2008.
