The lyrical gloom ("Some days are worse than you can imagine") keeps things squarely in Beck's depressive canon — but the music is a joy. Producer Danger Mouse layers each track with galaxies of psychedelic melodies and effects, then propels them with Joey Waronker's ferocious drums for a giddy retro-futurism.
