Once the movies' highest-paid writer, Dalton Trumbo did jail time for refusing to tell a House committee if he was a communist; in 1960 he effectively ended the Hollywood blacklist. This reverent doc, full of his letters — read by Joan Allen et al. — captures some of his warty, seductive significance.
