Though he could hardly scamper across the green carpet, 4-year-old Malachy snagged "Best in Show" Tuesday night at the Westminster Kennel Club at Madison Square Garden, in New York.
Judge Cindy Vogels was asked to choose between a German shepherd, an Irish setter, a Kerry blue terrier, a wire-haired dacshund, a Dalmation, and a Doberman pinscher. The crowd favorite, though, was clear: The stadium roared as she approached the Peke.
The tiny ball of fur beat out more than 2,000 entries in 185 breeds and varieties. The win was the pup’s 115th overall best in show title, for which he will take home a silver bowl and, of course, a whole lot of prestige.
Malachy is so fluffy that he appears to waddle, not walk. His handler, David Fitzpatrick carried him to the final lineup.
It is the first time since 1990 that a Peke has won at Westminster.
