A few days ago, pop-culture website Liquid Generation launched a quirky, addictive video mash-up of the most iconic lines in American film history. Jumping between blockbusters like Airplane, A League of Their Own, Apollo 13 and There Will Be Blood, "100 Best Movie Lines in 200 Seconds" may inspire you to update that stale Netflix queues. It can also double as a rapid-fire trivia game, offering viewers two seconds of material or less to name the movie in which the one-liner appears.
As for the best of these "Best Movie Lines?" The filmmakers have arranged the quotes into five different genres, and using an advanced scientific algorithm, TIME has determined the best in class:
Comedy: "It's not a tumor" (Kindergarten Cop); Runner-Up: "He slimed me" (Ghostbusters)
Sci-Fi/Fantasy: "My precious" (Lord of the Rings); Runner-Up: "You're gonna need a bigger boat" (Jaws)
Romance: "Stella!" (A Streetcar Named Desire); Runner-Up: "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn" (Gone With the Wind)
Drama: "I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this any more!" (Network); Runner-Up: "I drink your milkshake!" (There Will Be Blood)
Action:"The name's Bond. James Bond." (Dr. No); Runner-Up: "Royale With Cheese" (Pulp Fiction)
The quotes are juicy enough, but part of the fun of navigating through Liquid Generation's video is seeing all the unlikely juxtapositions enabled by editing. The R-rated Aliens ("Stay away from her, you bitch") butts up against the family-friendly E.T. ("E.T. phone home"). Poltergiest ("They're here!") segues seamlessly into The Shining ("Here's Johnny!"). A screaming Gerard Butler in 300 ("This is Sparta!") even opens up for a screaming Al Pacino in Scarface ("Say hello to my lil' friend!").
After naming all 100 movies, take notice of the editing tricks used to jam the video into its 200 allotted seconds. For example, the famous quote, "I'm Sorry Dave, but I can't do that" is lifted straight from Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey but only the first three words make it into the mash-up. Same with Silence of the Lambs: We hear Anthony Hopkins' evil slurp, but the video edits out the quote that precedes it: "I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti."
The more advanced cineaste can even try to take stock of all the notable omissions. I was personally disappointed to see not one mention of Star Trek. Khaaaan!
