Ilse Crawford works out of her studio in London. Recently, though, she's been a regular visitor to Stockholm, thanks to a string of projects there. She designed two restaurants in the city's Grand Hotel for the chef Mathias Dahlgren. She also collaborated with a local lighting company, Wastberg, on a low-energy lamp that Design Within Reach unveiled in February. Now she's converting an old house in the financial district into a luxury bed-and-breakfast, slated to open next year. This should give her an opportunity to hit some of her favorite spots around town:

RESTAURANTS
Bakfickan
A small food bar behind the opera house.
Jakobs Torg 12 (08-676-58-00; operakallaren.se)

Mathias Dahlgren, Grand Hotel Stockholm
Partly because we designed it. Also because Mathias is such an extraordinary cook.
Sodra Blasieholmshamnen 6 (08-679-35-84; mathiasdahlgren.com)

Den Gyldene Freden
One of the oldest restaurants in Stockholm. It's rather severe but great.
Oster-langgatan 51 (08-24-97-60; gyldenefreden.se)

SHOPPING
Acne jeans are fantastic, and I love their partnership with Lanvin.
Norrmalmstorg 2 (08-611-64-11; acnejeans.com)

Jackson Design
A collection of 20th century modern. Their jewelry in particular is very special.
Sibyllegatan 53 (08-665-33-50; jacksons.se)

Svenskt Tenn
Great for Josef Frank fabrics, lighting and furniture.
Strandvagen 5 (08- 670-16-00; svenskttenn.se)

ART AND ARCHITECTURE
Nordic Museum
Fantastic folk art and an amazing collection of glassware.
Djurgardsvagen 6-16 (08-519-546-00; nordiskamuseet.se)

St. Mark's Church, Bjorkhagen, was designed by architect Sigurd Lewerentz. He insisted that the bricks not be cut and could fit together, even though they were all really different in shape.

OUTDOORS
Nobel Park, Ostermalm
The park runs all along the water and has the most beautiful jogging tracks.

Woodland Cemetery
Really a forest designed by architects Gunnar Asplund and Sigurd Lewerentz. You see rabbits and hares bounding around. Greta Garbo is buried there.
Arenavagen 41 (08-508-301-00; skogskyrkogarden.se)

Rosendal's Garden
Biodynamic gardeners have turned the greenhouses into poetry. They have apple exhibitions and a café, and you can cut flowers.
Rosendals-terrassen 12 (08-545-812-70; rosendalstradgard.se)
