Technology is the secret ingredient favored by most skin-care companies in search of the next miracle potion. But New York City's C.O. Bigelow Apothecaries, founded in 1838, is famous for reaching back into the past for inspiration. Its home-brewed face and body formulas, such as Apothecary Rose Water, were often cooked up by local Greenwich Village pharmacists. Now, those once secret recipes are available online at
cobigelow.com., or in the U.S. through Bath and Body Works stores.
