The Kuarup, a two-day ritual to mourn and celebrate the lives of dead heroes, was performed in honor of prominent Brazilian anthropologist Apoena Meireles. Meireles, former head of the Federal Indian Bureau, was the first to contact the Cinta Larga Indians in the late 1960s
