Local Traditions
St. Sylvester mummers perform in the village of Urnaesch in Switzerland. In a local custom, three groups of mummers, distinguished as the beautiful, the ugly and the less ugly, dress up in costumes made of twigs, mosses and dried leaves and proceed from house to house in small groups singing and wishing families a prosperous year.
