Political Buttons from the Button Museum

Prohibition
The umbrella image and the slogan "Safety First," seen on the 1910s-produced button at left, were commonly used to voice support for the banning of alcohol in the U.S., which was mandated in 1920 by the passage of the Eighteenth Amendment and then repealed in 1933. The opposing viewpoint was championed with buttons like the "We Want Beer" pin from the 1920s on the right.
