Throughout the war, African Americans provided support labor in both the Union and Confederate Armies. Here, officers from the 114th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment, who were famous for their colorful uniforms inspired by the French Zouave regiments, pose in front of their tent during the siege of Petersburg. The two African Americans are likely servants for the white officers.
