Dr. Jack Kevorkian and His Suicide Machine
Dr. Jack Kevorkian, a retired pathologist, captured the U.S.'s attention with a campaign backing assisted suicide, reportedly helping 130 terminally ill patients end their lives between 1990 and 1999. Nicknamed "Dr. Death," he died at a Detroit-area hospital on Friday, June 3, at the age of 83. In this 1991 photo, Kevorkian, left, listens as his attorney Geoffrey Fieger speaks with reporters. On the table is Kevorkian's "suicide machine," built in 1985 from parts he reportedly found at flea markets.
