Reducing the Risk
Workers at a nuclear plant in Santiago, Chile, lift a rack of enriched uranium out of a cooling pool before placing it in a transfer cylinder in February 2010. As part of an international effort to secure nuclear material, Chile then shipped the uranium to the U.S. to be converted into safer, more stable reactor fuel.
