For many elderly victims living in shelters throughout the northeast, a sense of resignation seems to be setting in with the knowledge that rebuilding a new life will be hard. An elderly woman at an evacuation shelter in Yonezawa showed more concern for her grandchildren, saying "We're the people of the past. It doesn't matter what happens to us."
