An Englishman in New York

She was the first person that I actually photographed for the book. She's terribly connected and knows everybody. By the time of the shoot, I knew the owners and had talked to them a lot so taking the picture wasn't exactly embarrassing but rather an odd next step. The picture made itself: it was obvious I was going to shoot her at Tea & Sympathy and as she was quite tearful during the interview, I was clear it would be a quiet, reflective picture, which is in real contrast to how she is when you meet her, which is very loud and bubbly and full on.
