Begun in 1995 by a group of independent artists, the Slamdance Film Festival is organized at the same time and in the same town as the more well established Sundance Festival. Casting itself as an alternative to its crosstown competitor, Slamdance boasts that its "sole mission is to nurture, support and showcase truly independent works."
