Pledging Support
In the last decade the Peace Corps has enjoyed the support of two presidents. President George W. Bush planned to increased the size of program to rehabilitate America's international image as part the War on Terrorism; by 2004 Congress increased funding by $325 million dollars. President Barack Obama proposed another doubling in size as part of the 2008 stimulus package, and Congress increased funding by $400 million in 2010. In this photo, members of the Peace Corps cheer Obama as he speaks during a departure ceremony in Accra, Ghana, on July 11, 2009.
