In the Streets of Tunis
The frustration of the young protesters had been growing for years, as the unwritten compact their parents' generation had made with President Ben Ali economic opportunity in exchange for political freedoms had come undone. Though Tunisia offers excellent educational opportunities, the job market had shrunk, a process accelerated by the slowdown of the global economy. Estimates suggest that 25% of the youths of Tunisia are unemployed.
