The 1978 World Cup in Argentina was held under the shadow of a recently installed dictatorship. The final, held in the aptly-named Estadio Monumental, saw the Argentines beat the Dutch 3-1. Later investigations into the abuses of the ruling junta would reveal the presence of concentration camp holding dissidents less than a mile away from the stadium; the inmates allegedly could hear the roar of the crowds.
