Tear Gas
Protests against the barrier by Israelis and Palestinians are a regular occurrence. Local boys throw rocks at the Israeli soldiers who patrol the border. The soldiers respond by lobbing tear gas. The absence of opportunities to visit Israel, observes one local man, "prevents the Palestinian youth from seeing the developed ways of the Israelis. Not only do they not see normal Israelis, but they witness the violence of the soldiers." The absence of familiarity does not bode well for the chance of the two peoples one day living as neighbors in peace. Photo taken December 2010
