Though Cabrini-Green was situated near two of Chicago's more affluent neighborhoods, Gold Coast and Lincoln Park, just walking distance from the city's famed Loop downtown, most of the residents lived in poverty. The buildings were increasingly neglected by the Chicago Housing Authority.
