The Heart of Barcelona
La Sagrada Família has always been an expiatory church, which means that from the beginning, its construction was paid for out of donations. Gaudí himself said that the church "is made by the people and is mirrored in them. It is a work that is in the hands of God and the will of the people." It remains the city's top tourist attraction and most potent symbol, attracting millions of visitors every year.
