September:
How do we remember a day so filled with horror and bravery? People are finding their own ways to memorialize the dead. More than 3,000 people were killed at the World Trade Center, including 343 New York City firefighters, 23 New York City police officers and 37 Port Authority Police officers. One hundred eighty-nine perished at the Pentagon crash site, while in Pennsylvania, 44 people died in a fiery jet crash, after passengers apparently overpowered the terrorists and drove the plane into the ground. Permanent memorials represent more of a challenge: Should New York rebuild? Or should the terror sites remain barren reminders?
