The ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks was marked in lower Manhattan amid acrimonious debate over the appropriateness of building a Islamic cultural center two blocks from the former site of the World Trade Center. The controversy became even more intense when a Florida pastor suggested that he would burn a Koran in protest of the idea of a mosque near Ground Zero. He later suspended the idea.
