Daley would remain mayor of Chicago for 21 years, during which time he would preside over numerous changes to the city's landscape, including the expansion of O'Hare International Airport into one of the world's busiest airline hubs and the construction of the Sears Tower (now called the Willis Tower), which, at the time of its completion, was the tallest building in the world. He also built high-rise public-housing projects that were regarded as models for the rest of the country upon their completion but were torn down by his son as failed experiments a few decades later.
