In mid-August, photographer Peter van Agtmael embedded with the Bandit troop of 1/3 Heavy Brigade Combat Team, an advise and assist unit out of Ft. Stewart, Ga. Brigades of this kind, armed with far more combat power than the Iraqi military, will train Iraq's security forces, protect U.S. agencies engaged in rebuilding the country and provide intelligence, aircraft and other assets in support of the counterterrorism campaign.
