Before the storm, the park had been operated by the Six Flags company on land belonging to the city of New Orleans. After years of wrangling over who would clean up the mess, a Delaware court presiding over the bankruptcy of Six Flags agreed in December 2009 to allow the park operator to terminate its lease with the city.
