Founded with the help of Renault in the early days of the Ceausescu regime, the Dacia automobile company produced its first original model, the Dacia 1300, in 1969. (An earlier design, the 1100, was produced with parts imported from France.) The car's design remained basically unchanged for 35 years, outlasting both the Ceausescus and their Soviet masters.
