Doctors in Apac may see as many as 3,000 patients a week, and even 5,000 in the rainy season. Malaria affects half the world's countries, but seven of them — the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, southern Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda — account for two-thirds of the cases, and Nigeria a quarter by itself.
