In the book Animals in Translation, which she co-authored with Catherine Johnson, Grandin suggests that autistic people can think the way animals think and that, perhaps, autism can be understood as a midway point between animals and humans. Animals are not only smarter than humans imagine, she believes; in some ways they are simply brilliant.
