Sonny and Cher had been a slapsticking pop-music duo for years before they premiered The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour in 1971. Their real-life husband-wife, love-hate, tall-short banter became variety-show gold, making the couple into television's top comedic twosome. Sadly, the curse of TV marriages hit them in 1974 when, while taping the last season of the Comedy Hour, they decided to call it quits. Fifty-eight hours after filing for divorce, Sonny put Cher's little hand in his, and they sang their tired theme song one last time. "I Got You Babe" never sounded so bittersweet.
