Robert Gates in Afghanistan

A marine is sworn in by the Defense Secretary during an enlistment at the American Embassy in Kabul. During a conversation with the press during the flight to Kabul, Gates had said that "We're in this thing to win," a comment which raised eyebrows, since the President had noticeably left out such language from his speech at West Point announcing the increase in troop strength.
