A former police sergeant from Bolingbroke, Ill., Peterson was arrested in May in connection with the death of his third wife, Kathleen Savio, who was found in an empty bathtub in 2004, her hair soaked in blood from a head wound. A coroner's report initially ruled the death an accidental drowning, but another autopsy, conducted at the urging of Savio's family in 2007, concluded that the death was a "homicide staged to look like an accident." Peterson, who is also suspected of having a hand in the disappearance of his fourth wife, has pleaded not guilty.
