The global, billion-dollar success of franchises like Star Trek and Star Wars made them prime targets for satire, inspiring, among many other films, farces like Mel Brooks' 1987 release Spaceballs, which imagined Bill Pullman as "Lone Starr", Daphne Zuniga as "Princess Vespa", Lorene Yarnell, with voice over by Joan Rivers, as "Dot Matrix", and John Candy as the half-dog, half man, or Mog, named "Barf."
