Michael Jackson Memorabilia Goes Up for Auction

An Auction of Michael Jackson Items
Tom Schierlitz for TIME

Lot 311: Handwritten Letter
Written on Capitol Tokyu Hotel stationery, this three-page letter is addressed to William Pecchi Jr., a camera operator on Jackson's film Moonwalker. After the making of the movie, Pecchi (whom Jackson calls "Pecky" in his salutation) was asked to travel abroad with Jackson during the Bad tour in order to film crowd-reaction shots. As they traveled together, Pecchi and Jackson talked at length, and one of their conversations in Tokyo provoked this correspondence. At the top of one of the pages, Jackson wrote, "I just can't conceive of how a person could hate another because of skin color. I love every race on the planet earth. Prejudice is the child of ignorance." The estimate for this item is $1,000 to $2,000.
